St. Vincent & John Vanderslice at the Local 506

You get spoiled in a town like Chapel Hill. So many bands come here you end up missing some, because you know there will always be more in the next couple of days. I’m just coming back from St. Vincent aka Annie Clark, and John Vanderslice at the Local 506. Annie Clark is a dynamo. Between her songs, her voice, her guitar playing, and her school girl outfit I can’t articulate how interesting she is as an artist. She is something to behold. I’d love to give you the set list, but all I can remember is that she ended her set with These Days a’la Jackson Browne a’la Nico. Her album Marry Me comes out on Beggars Banquet on July 10th. She was so mesmerizing, I really thought it couldn’t get any better. John Vanderslice proved me wrong and entertained the crowd with his finely constructed songs and funny banter. He even brought his mom up on stage at one point and later asked people from the audience to come and sing back up. He ended the show by going into the middle of the crowd with his unplugged guitar and played one final song. If you haven’t heard him you should check out his records. He will have a new one out this summer. I should of took some pictures, but forgot the old camera. I know this is all disjointed, but it is as good as it will get tonight.
