Notes::Athfest 2007; Album Review:: Modern Skirts "Catalogue Of Generous Men"

On June 20-24 Athens, Georgia’s annual Athfest will take place. A multitude of bands will perform at the festival at venues all over town. The headliners are Perpetual Groove (Friday), The Whigs (Saturday), and The Drive-By Truckers (Sunday).

On May 4th, the Athfest 2007 cd was released. Many artists submitted tracks for consideration for the comp. The disc has a wide array of groups from pop, rock, singer-songwriter, country, hip hop, and even metal. There are bunch of gems on this cd, such as the Now Its Overhead and Mike Dwyer tracks. If the cd is any indication of what the festival is going to like, we all better head on down to Athens.

Athens, Ga’s Modern Skirts will playing Athfest on Friday at Little Kings. Lately i’ve been enjoying the piano centered power-pop quartet’s release Catalogue of Generous Men. The group combines good song writing with richly textured vocals to create some very catchy pop songs. They draw their inspiration from everything from Kinks, 70’s NYC art rock, to the Beach Boys. I think my favorite song is the opener NY Song, but City Lights is a close second.
