Shootin’ The Tube:: Live On Letterman

On the eve of the Jesus And Mary Chain’s return to live US TV, we took a dive into the vast wasteland known as YouTube.com and found a few noteworthy performances from a few of our fave artists on David Letterman…take a look and some nice clips.

The Jesus And Mary Chain made their debut performance on NBC’s “Late Night With David Letterman” during the summer of 1992 while promoting “Honey’s Dead” and the Lollapalooza II tour. Here’s “Far Gone And Out”, the 2nd single from the LP – with Jim Reid, William Reid, and Ben Lurie along with the late night band. They would reappear on the CBS version of the show in 1994 with Hope Sandoval and their live version of “Sometimes Always”.

By the time this aired on CBS, the David Letterman show ditched the idea of having the house band play with members of the performing aritsts. Another set of brothers – Liam and Noel Gallagher, this time out from 1995 – it’s of course Oasis and their track “Morning Glory” from their US break through LP “Whats The Story Morning Glory” which featured the MTV heavily rotated videos “Wonderwall” and “Chapaign Super Nova”.

Ryan Adams also made an appearance on CBS’s “The Late Show with David Letterman” in October of 2001 – just three weeks after 9-11-01 terrorist attacks on New York City. Ryan performs “New York, New York” from his LP “Gold”

With Wilco’s new LP “Sky Blue Sky” just released, we managed to track down a great performance of the band from June of 2004 – and the track “Hummingbird” from the album “A Ghost Is Born” – a song we remember most from a mixed cd we made on our road trip to Athens, GA – check out Jeff Tweedy and co.

As usual, we’ve got more surfing to do – check back soon for more videos worth watching.
