Crowded House At "Live Earth"

You had to have been there to know what true magic Crowded House are live. We saw the band live on two occasions -the first time in 1991, followed by their “Together Alone” tour in 1994. This reunited version of Crowded House, headlining the Australian “Live Earth” concert brought the magic back once again with pure energy and their knack for entertaining/connecting with an audience.

Former Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett introduced Crowded House at 5:50AM EST. The band launch into “Locked Out” followed by the fittingly titled “World Where You Love” from 1986’s debut LP – which included 60,000 fans singing the chorus. In between the band showcased tracks rom the new LP “Time On Earth”“Silent House” as well as “Don’t Stop Now” which Neil finn stated “This is our theme at the moment.”

A few months in on their reunion tour, Crowded House are as sharp as they were in the mid 90’s. The band now includes Matt Sherrod as well as Neil’s son, the bearded Liam Finn on acoustic guitar. The banter in between songs has always been a staple of Crowded House concerts, and this show was no different. In what could have been an awkward moment – during the tail end of their set, the stage lights went out ( and stayed out) -Neil & Co. took that and put a spin on it which turned out to be the highlight of the 8 City World concert – they continued to play it out with “Something So Strong” – (where neil exclaims “so who needs power”), “Weather With You” (which included almost all of the Australian Live Earth” Line-up). The band closed out the show with an encore, the classic “Better Be Home Soon.” I’m looking forward to seeing the band live again, this time in NYC at Beacon Theater next month.
