Classic Shows::The Doors – The Matrix Tapes

You’ve heard it all before. The hypnotic keys, that voice, the subject matter and the overall dark aura made The Doors sound otherworldly. Yes, there is something pompous and carnivalesque about the The Doors, but they were something else. All their songs kind of blend and sound the same, but it was their sound. I don’t listen to them too often anymore, but recently I pulled out the matrix tapes from 1967 and really enjoyed what I heard. These recordings come from two nights at San Francisco’s Matrix Club on March 7 and 10, 1967, and include all of your favorites.

Listen to Morrison’s seizure like vocal belching and the intense breakdown on When The Music’s Over.
