Artist Spotlight::Arizona to release Fameseker and the Mono September 11

Arizona, a New York based band currently residing in Asheville, NC will be self-releasing their third record the Fameseeker and the Mono EP this September 11th. The record, a careening crash course in the bands inventive psych-folk-rock mélange, further solidifies Arizona as a band to watch.

Bursting onto the scene with their debut EP, The Sun and the Room in 2005, Arizona rapidly followed it up with their first LP, Welcome Back Dear Children in late 2006 to critical acclaim. Writing for New York’s The Deli Magazine Walt Wells proclaimed: “Welcome Back Dear Children is quite possibly the strongest debut album from an unsigned band I’ve ever heard.” Never a band to rest on its laurels, Arizona is set to capitalize on the positive responses their music has received up to this point with their new EP, Fameseeker and the Mono. Proving that the great songwriting of the first two records was no fluke, Fameseeker and the Mono is filled with a curious combination of hopeful beauty and harsh disconnectedness, always yearning for something more, something different. Here is the ep in streaming audio:

Though mostly home-recorded, it is only fitting that the closing bars of Fameseeker were captured in a converted church at Echo Mountain Recording in Asheville, NC with longtime friend and engineer, Danny Kadar (The Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket, Iggy Pop, Trey Anastasio). A seed was sown, ultimately leading Arizona to the warm climes and warmer smiles of Asheville where the almost absurdly prolific five-piece intends to record their next full-length, also at Echo Mountain.

Still currently still flying well below most people’s radar, the band’s innovative work has not gone unrecognized by their peers, with the band having opened for Band of Horses, The Slip, Indigo Girls, and Annuals. With featured airtime at NPR, WOXY, and WNCW radio appears to be catching on to Arizona as well. And, if Connor from I Guess I’m Floating is correct, “Fameseeker And The Mono …will cement [Arizona] as one of 2007’s most prolific break-through artists.”
