Film Notes::Marc Bolan: 20th Century Boy

With a swagger and coolness like few others, combined with the credit of composing some of rocks’ most exciting songs, Marc Bolan was taken away too early. September would have been Bolan’s 60th birthday, and to celebrate his life, ITV are screening – Marc Bolan:20th Century Boy. September is also the 30th anniversary of Marc Bolan’s death, two weeks before his 30th birthday, which contributed to his achieving a cult status with his band T Rex. The film includes exclusive interviews with his son Rolan Bolan, in Los Angeles, and long-term partner Gloria Jones, in Sierra Leone, where she now runs an orphanage. There are also interviews with his brother Harry Feld, Jeff Dexter his best friend, tour manager and assistant Mick Gray, bandmate Bill Legend, record producer Tony Visconti, and others including Simon Napier Bell, Cilla Black, and Scissor Sisters’ Ana Matronic. A spokesperson said: “With archive concert film footage, this film proves that Bolan was born to boogie.”
