Drive By Truckers::The Home Front Tour 2008

The new Drive By Truckers double album Brighter Than Creation’s Dark comes out on the 22nd of January in the states, and if you’re lucky enough to be in Utrecht on the 21st you can buy it there. In support of the new record, DBT has announced the first leg of The Home Front Tour 2008, which will begin in Athens at the 40 Watt on the 10th of January, where they will play the album in its’ entirety. Should be a lot of fun to be had and as great as The Dirt Underneath Tour was, I can say I’m ready for the acoustics to make only the occasional appearance for a while. In addition to all this, the Brighter Than Creation’s Dark EP will be available at iTunes and other places tomorrow. The EP includes: “Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife,” “3 Dimes Down,” The Righteous Path, and “The Purgatory Line.” Check out their website for more info.

Below you will find a couple of videos from the two nights in Charleston this year. The marathon really screwed me up for a while that Saturday. Anyway, whoever filmed must have been standing next to me, because that really is an accurate portrayal of how the sound system was blowing it out up front those two nights. Not my favorite DBT shows, but not nearly as lame as the set up at that fancy pants theatre in Durham, back in ’06(especially a disappointment compared to those hell raising shows at the Cat’s Cradle in late 2005). Having said all that, they were still a hell of lot more fun than watching most of the bores I’ve seen live over the years. In Durham, I don’t know what was worse, the assigned seats or the fact that they ran out of beer at 9-o’ Fuckin‘ Clock. Actually, the assigned seats were bad enough, but what really made it awful was the fact that they had these elderly ladies acting as ushers and monitoring the seating. I can tell you I’m no stranger to jumping fences and leaving my assigned seat, but frankly I just didn’t have the heart to harass those old ladies.
