MGMT:: Time To Pretend EP

In 2005, keyboardist Ben Goldwasser and guitarist Andrew VanWyngarden – collectively known as MGMT released the Time to Pretend EP. The buzz grew and soon they had caught the ear of Kevin Barnes from the Athens, GA band Of Montreal and were invited to open for them on an upcoming US tour. MGMT would spend the next year and a half touring with Of Montreal behind Cantora Record’s Time to Pretend EP. In a short matter of time, the EP made it’s way to Columbia Records, and the label signed MGMT based on the strength of the six songs featured on the release. MGMT’s Dave Fridmann-produced Columbia Records debut Oracular Spectacular was released on January 22nd, 2008 and features two songs from the Time to Pretend EP including “Time to Pretend” which was released as the albums first single.
