Capillary Action:: So Embarassing

Riding a maze of well conspired whims, Capillary Action mix and mingle on their new record, So Embarassing, injecting passages and departures that range from sleek, jazzy, spare, and anywhere in between. Certainly hard to nail down, this adventure often takes erratic to a new level, coming across as an aural version of Mousetrap, guided by fine vocals that are a bit reminiscent of Elvis Costello. Full of mystery and theatrics, coming complete with maniacal frenzies that show no fear in the face of both beauty and heaviness; Capillary Action are as likely to sound like a million pounds of breaking glass as they are to touch down for a little flamenco toned guitar, such as on “Paperweights,” bringing a little of southern coastal Spain to the forefront, if only for a few moments. All over the place, and while often that isn’t a good thing, I assure you that So Embarrassing is a step above, and perhaps a little too much for those smiley faced brownies the first time around.
