Setting Sun:: Children of the Wild

One of my favorite albums out this week is Setting Sun’s Children of the Wild, available now on Young Love Records. The album opens with the solitude of the front porch acoustic swing of ” What We Wanted,”with Setting Sun preparing the stage for talk of love, God, and a few things in between. Quickly, the album reaches critical density with the intense dark revelation of “No Devil me no More,” stomping its message into the brain. The snare drum picks things up on sing-a-long “How Long,” showcasing some good hooks in conjunction with some upstanding harmonies, cello and violin. Children of the Wild moves well to the end, full of good form and some splendid appeal. Heavily injected with well written tunes that keep it moving, while maintaining a tempo and feel ready for the tracks. Setting Sun began in 2001 in San Francisco where Gary Levitt wrote and produced their debut CD Holed Up. Children of the Wild was self-produced by Gary Levitt with many friends lending their playing skills, including Erica Quitzow of Quitzow.
