Bodies of Water:: A Certain Feeling

Another album I’ve really gotten into during the last few weeks is A Certain Feeling by Bodies of Water. The record was written, arranged and recorded in David & Meredith Metcalf’s house in the Northeast L.A. neighborhood of Highland Park and is stocked full of dramatic ups and downs. A Certain Feeling comes off like a processional stirred up by grandiose chorals, while as likely to run through a quick succession of big changes as it is to stay close to a single riff. With its prog hybrid fixtures all moving well, this is a journey through the immense unknown, showing all the wear, tear, elation, and expectation of the human quandary. Bodies of Water’s A Certain Feeling is the story of one tribe and their ultimate challenge, done with finely animated orchestration, claiming both the pedestrian and the exotic, though best understood through one’s own frame.
