Teddy Thompson:: A Piece of What You Need

Teddy Thompson, son of folk legend Richard Thompson, released his latest album, A Piece Of What You Need, last month. While there are no wild beats or other exotic regalia, there is much to be intrigued here on this straight forward effort containing variations on themes of finding peace, love, & understanding in a lonely world; avoiding the call of the therapist’s couch; dealing with mediocre subject matter (lived that life for a couple of years); and the dull pain called lack of inspiration. Teddy’s voice is rich and full of character as he attempts to connect the illusive dots of life with this well written and quite palatable listen. We all need something, it is just rarely what is being offered. Good show!

For the tour, Teddy has New York-based group The Grey Race joining him as his backing band. The group is comprised of bassist Jeff Hill (who has played on Thompson’s last two albums and is Rufus Wainwright’s longtime bassist), Ethan Eubanks on drums, and Jon Darling on guitar. Rounding out the lineup will be Ben Stivers on keyboards
