Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele:: The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele

Out today is a debut record by Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele titled The Good Feeling Music… Dent May cites some of his favorite singers as Prince, Serge Gainsbourg, and Lee Hazlewood, while his songs employ a combination of ukulele, drums, pedal steel, violin, horns, and much of the normal stuff. The music is finely orchestrated to support Dent’s golden melodies that are likely to bring more than the occasional smile with lyrics that are funny, but not necessarily if you’re living them. “College Town Boy” asks the question, “How does it feel to be nothing?,” while painting a picture of a life a few us have experienced – stoned, going nowhere, and expiring. There is plenty more with talk of Michael Chang and Paris, though the song “I’m an Alcoholic,” counts in as my favorite with its natural infection and declaration that “I’m over being sober… this is how I live my life.” His debut album, The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, was recorded with Rusty Santos in May’s home, a double-wide trailer in Taylor, Mississippi (population: 300). Dent May will be on tour with AC Newman in February and March.
