Marissa Nadler:: Little Hells

Boston singer/songwriter Marissa Nadler releases her fourth solo album, Little Hells, next week on Kemado. First of all, Little Hells needs to be turned up loud enough so as to pick up on all the subtleties, otherwise this one can could go unnoticed. The album traverses through varied worlds, ranging from moods of melancholic claustrophobia to a more open numbness. Little Hells’ ten tracks are far off folk constructions brought to fruition by Marissa’s thick and woozy reverbed vocals laid over compelling sonic backdrops, which sigh and breathe on their own. Produced by Chris Coady, with musical guests including longtime collaborator Myles Baer, Simone Pace (Blonde Redhead), and Dave Scher (Farmer Dave), Little Hells is an enchanting work finding its place between the air and water.
