Jar-e:: Chicas Malas

I haven’t heard much talk concerning Asheville, NC based artist Jar-E and new album, Chicas Malas, but who cares ’cause this is pretty good stuff. Chicas Malas is equipped with ten numbers of very active well thought out melodies that often bring to mind classic AM Seventies with a strong latin influence. The album opens with the sunny mood of “Fever Break,” showing horns and harmonies sure to be seen again on this album. While Jar-E’s poignant charisma spreads fresh oxygen throughout Chicas Malas, the standouts are “An Idea,” with its frolicking rolling feel, and “Lorca” with its Freddie Mercury-esque vocal wind-up done over a complimentary melody that extends and retracts. Good fun and real feeling.
