Ramblin’ Jack Elliott: Pete Seeger’s 90th; A Stranger Here

Ramblin’ Jack Elliott will join Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Billy Bragg, John Mellencamp and others, in gathering at Madison Square Garden on May 3rd to celebrate American folk legend Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday. Later that month, Ramblin’ Jack will revisit neighborhoods he used to frequent with Kerouac and Dylan in the 1950s and ‘60s, when he plays a special show at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on May 13th.

The 77 year old Elliott is making a number of appearances in support of his upcoming release A Stranger Here, available Tuesday. Produced by Joe Henry (Bettye LaVette, Solomon Burke, Elvis Costello/Allen Toussaint), A Stranger Here is backed by legendary Los Angeles session musicians such as Van Dyke Parks and David Hidalgo. Below, you are invited to listen to the first song from A Stranger Here, “Richland Women Blues,” recorded by Mississippi John Hurt in the 1920s.
