Pomegranates:: Everybody, Come Outside!; road w/ Wye Oak

If Pomegranates haven’t been on your radar you need to put down the idiot gaga and get your head straight. Last year they released the spectacular debut full length, Everything Is Alive, to so much applause French Kicks and Islands invited the band out on the road. While I’m not sure between the two LPs where I rank their new album, Everybody, Come Outside!, is an equally arresting work done in luscious dynamic color that is both playful and cinematic. The album presents eleven valiant evening vignettes, solidifying Pomegranates as one of today’s best exemplars of originality and listenabilty. Rains of flickering guitar and other shimmering sounds thread Everybody, Come Outside!, with high points such as “This Land Used to be My Land, But Now I Hate This Land,” adding talk of not being able to see the stars at night living in the city. “Sail (Away with Me),” is a lovely little acoustic boat-in-a-bathtub request sequenced with stirring effect before the flareful flagship track “Corriander.” Everybody, Come Outside! was recorded by Pomegranates and mixed and mastered by TJ Lipple of Aloha (MGMT, Headlights, Minus Story).
