Viva Voce:: Rose City

Portland’s Viva Voce released their new album, Rose City, last week on Barsuk. The record was arranged and recorded themselves all in one month, with results equalling a strong play with some even nicer stops. Rose City opens with the sirens of “Devotion,” before the woo-hoo-hoos of “Die A Little,” prepare standout “Octavio,” with its starlit punctuated rhythm. The brightest moment comes by way of “Red Letter Day,” flush with mystery, a little foreboding, tinges of implied exotica, and a mandate to ‘lay it all on the line.’ Check out “Devotion” and “Octavio” from Rose City, both featured below.
