Matt Krefting:: I Couldn’t Love You More

I leave you today with Matt Krefting’s new album, I Couldn’t Love You More, out this week on Ecstatic Peace! The record is ten takes on the works of Rick Danko, John Martyn, Bill Fay and other worthy masters. I Couldn’t Love You More flows well to the end, with Matt’s voice sounding rich and solemn like Richard Thompson, especially on the faithful reading of Bruce Robison’s “It’s Gonna Be Easy.” Being an obsessive partaker of both Grateful Dead and John Martyn, I was rather pleased by “John The Baptist,” and even more so, with a particularly strong imagining of the Hunter/Garcia classic, “To Lay Me Down.” Other high marks go to the eternal wail of Zappa’s “Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up,” though you’ll be better served to make your mind up by watching the promo video for the album (how awesome is it that they have “Box of Rain” on that list). Shine on.
