The Fruit Bats release The Ruminant Band

PrintLike the day rising out of a foggyass morning, the opener on The Ruminant Band – “Primitive Man,” parades rich acoustic strums which alter the air with the feeling of shipping off, or an epiphany. Harmonies, thoughtful movements, and inspired songs convene on The Fruit Bats’ new album, delivering one of the year’s best. More importantly, this album is more than a thought in the passing music season. The title track comes with clarity and joy, before passing on to “Tegucigalpa,” with its changes, jam, and a build that serves as one of the record’s highpoints. I can’t help but think a little of Al Stewart while listening to “Singing Joy To The World,” an acoustic serenade and personal favorite coming with the tone of unrequited and “fine with just pretend.” Otherwise, “The Blessed Breeze” shows off some near southern rock interludes, in addition to other jams and moments that bring to mind The Grateful Dead (who always came complete with both song and playing).  Oh yeah, “Feather Bed” has some classic Elton in there somewhere, but you’re better off finding out yourself.  Finally, you can stay home and listen to one of those mediocre / overly hyped albums, of which you really only sorta like two or three songs, or you go for the superiour listening experience of The Ruminant Band.
