Woodstock Special on WXPN’s World Cafe this weekend

wWXPN, the noncommercial radio service of the University of Pennsylvania, has announced that it will air “Woodstock 40 Years On: A Special Edition of the World Cafe,” a two-hour retrospective of Woodstock, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the legendary music and arts fair. The special will air on Friday, August 14 at 2 p.m. and will be re-broadcast on Saturday, August 15 at 10 a.m.

The special will feature exclusive interviews with the musicians that played the festival including Grace Slick, Mickey Hart, Richie Havens, Bob Weir, Robbie Robertson, Leslie West and Arlo Guthrie. Additional interviews will feature the poetic musings of hippie icon Wavy Gravy and flower-child Melanie and behind-the-scenes stories from sound engineer Eddie Kramer and Woodstock promoter Michael Lang. The special will also feature never-before-heard audio recorded during the three days of The Aquarium Exposition. “The lasting impact of Woodstock is undeniable, and with the 40th anniversary coming up, the timing couldn’t be better for this program,” said World Cafe® host David Dye. “Listeners will get to hear some truly unique content that will make them feel like they were at the festival back in 1969.”
