This week, Ray Raposa’s continued work as Castanets sees the new release of Texas Rose, The Thaw, and The Beasts. This album is in short, twilight country speckled with ambiance by way of background flourishes, ticking, and other drips. At times, like on “No Trouble,” there is an ominous pervasion delivered through the grind of an aural butcher’s hammer. Convincing enough to make you feel like it sounds whether you want to or not.
