Meshell Ndegeocello’s eighth studio album, Devil’s Halo, is an amalgam of soul, funk, sound mashes, smooth vocal lines, and mood. Meshell forgoes beats and bass for the fragrant soundscapes wallowing in acoustic on “Crying In Your Beer.” Meshell and her guitarist Chris Bruce produced the album with much of the recording down in one or two takes to recreate a immediacy of live environs.
