Laarks come from Eau Claire, WI, home to a scene that includes Bon Iver, Megafaun, and Volcano Choir. An Exaltation of Laarks shows a more robust and direct sound than the aforementioned, though their dynamic layering of sound implies a similar mindset. The album is ten tracks of cascading synth and guitar textures held up by stalwart drumming and resulting melody. “Look Out!” is one of many highlights, coming with hooky chugging and chopping movement and a somewhat Strokes-ish build on the refrain.
