A Weather on Everyday Balloons

A Weather’s new album, Everyday Balloons, involves a thoughtful melancholia of movement and feeling reminiscent of nineties indie greats such as Ida and Tram. Speaking of Ida, I don’t remember hearing anything in a long time that had their low-key impact until Everyday Balloons reached me with its exquisite girl / guy exchanges and harmonies. The Portland, Oregon group have made one of the more complete and effective records I’ve heard this year. Everyday Balloons abounds with soft spoken vocal melodies that never lose their cool to overreaction as they brim with compelling emotion.  It’s all in the contract of canyons and mountains. Very nice indeed.
