Paper the Operator:: Goodbye God

I remember enjoying Paper The Operator’s collections of odds and ends – Mounty Bounty, so it wasn’t a complete surprise that the new album would provide some enjoyable spins. John Sebastian shows on Goodbye God that he’s not only good at writing melodies, but he’s capable of mixing it up stylistically within the confines of a single work. From the solitary electric guitar of opener “Please Proceed,” the power pop of “I Get Around,” the synth driven hooks of “Days Of Thunder,” to the more acoustic environs of “It’s A Miracle,” most everything goes somewhere and there’s nary a blind spot.  Oh yeah, “Rock Dreams” reminds me of my favorite all time groups – Teenage Fanclub.
