Roky Erickson with Okkervil River:: True Love Cast Out All Evil

Back in April, Roky Erickson released his first album in fifteen years, True Love Cast Out All Evil, with Okkervil River acting as backing band.  The record opens with “Devotional Number One,” with all intents and purposes breaking a symbolic discontinuity between the past and present. Ultimately it all ushers in a work that’s enjoyable and proof that Roky still has something to say worth hearing.  With piles and piles of new releases running amok in the office its still been difficult to put this one away. Talk of love, evil, death, eternity, and the past are just a few frames for what to expect from an album that is actually as good as it should be. I’ll spare you anymore words, though masturbatory lines surely abound here in the internet music grid. Sound needeth not external translation, though the sheep will never cease to call for it.
