Not too long ago Plants and Animals released their latest album, La La Land. The band follow up their heralded 2008 work, Parc Avenue, with eleven new tracks layered in thought and melody. Whether it be the smoky revelatory gloss of “Swinging Bells,” the brassy indie riff and chop of “American Idol,” or implications of Third/Sister Lovers‘ sway on “Undone Melody,” Plants and Animals prove over and over again that they know how to build up a hook.
