Clarence Ashley with Doc Watson:: “The Banks of the Ohio”

This capturing of “The Banks of the Ohio” is likely the first footage shot of Doc Watson. I know it was NYC but the sound and images could have easily been lifted from an episode of the Andy Griffith show. Nice.

The Association for Cultural Equity and Media-Generation have announced the first-ever release of Ballads, Blues, and Bluegrass on September 18th. The film captures the brief though legendary era in the early 60’s. It was directed by Alan Lomax, shot by George Pickow, with sound by Jean Ritchie, and editing by Anna Lomax Wood.
