Zechs Marquise join RX Bandits

Days after playing the Bonnaroo festival in The Mars Volta alongside his brother Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, multi-instrumentalist Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez will hit the road once again. This time he joins another of his siblings, bassist Marfred Rodriguez-Lopez in their expansive prog-rock outfit Zechs Marquise.

Zechs Marquise will release 15-track debut album Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare on vinyl and CD on August 25th through Rodriguez Lopez Productions. The El Paso, TX based quartet brings its sounds to the east coast in July, opening for RX Bandits.

Zechs Marquise formed in El Paso, Texas during the spring of 2003 when brothers Marfred and Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez came together with childhood friends Matthew Wilkson and Marcos Smith. The group soon named itself after a popular Japanese anime character and hit the studio to record its first album during the late summer months of 2004. That studio effort was later scrapped and in June 2006 the band instead released 34:26. By fall of 2006, Zechs was touring the west coast consistently, sharing the stage with such acts as Daedelus, Busdriver, The Album Leaf, (DJ) Nobody, Daddy Kev, The Gaslamp Killer, and Totimoshi. In March 2009, the band made its first trip to Europe, opening for the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group, in which Marcel is also a player.

Ben Sollee:: Bicycle Tours To Bonnaroo & Jimmy Kimmel

On June 4th, Kentucky-born songwriter Ben Sollee will strap his 1930’s Kay cello to his bicycle and pedal 26 miles from Lexington to Frankfort, KY – then onward to a different Appalachia town nightly until reaching Bonnaroo on June 11th.  “I always felt like I was missing something during the high speed transportation of conventional touring,” says Ben who aligned with Xtracycle (extended-frame bicycles) for the trip, inspired by its technology to haul gear with relative ease. “I’m hoping the limitations of traveling by bike will cause me to be more present at each place, and be a part of the community.”

The tour has also aligned with Oxfam America, a relief and development organization that works to find lasting solutions for poverty, hunger and injustice. “I suspect there will be some moments when I question the wisdom of hauling 60 lbs. of equipment on a bike through the hills of Southern Appalachia. But it’s important to me.”

Ben is currently touring in support of his second full-length Learning to Bend and digital EP Something Worth Keeping (featuring the duet “Only a Song” with Jim James of My Morning Jacket). Look for his a new project in late 2009 to promote awareness of the Mountain Top Removal organization, featuring Jim James and Daniel Martin Moore.

The New Regime:: Six live on imeem

The New Regime will premiere the first in a series of six live videos on imeem. Then, imeem will exclusively debut a new video every Tuesday and Friday for three weeks on The New Regime’s profile. The videos are from tracks off the debut album, Coup. Each video was filmed in a live, non show setting at Swinghouse Studios in Los Angeles. According to front man, Ilan Rubin, “Rather than miming to a meaningless video treatment, I chose to utilize the video to highlight what a band should do best: play live.” With a full schedule as the drummer of Nine Inch Nails and formerly Lostprophets, no tour schedule has been set at this time for The New Regime.

The New Regime video premieres on imeem are scheduled follows:
March 10: “Order Restored”
March 13: “Take Control”
March 17: “The Collapse”
March 20: “Tap Dancing In a Minefield”
March 24: “This War Time”
March 27: “Haunt My Mind”

Highlights in Ilan Rubin’s career:
1. In 1999, 11-year-old Ilan gained entry into the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest musician to ever play on a Woodstock stage.
2. At the age of 12, Ilan submitted a video to Modern Drummer Magazine taken of him doing a solo during an F.o.N. performance, which was picked by the magazine as the winning entry in its “Best Undiscovered Drummer Under the Age of 18” contest. The winner of the 18-and-over category came from Argentina, and both drummers were invited to perform at the 2000 Modern Drummer Festival, by which time Ilan had turned 12.
3. On November 15, 2008, Trent Reznor announced that Ilan Rubin would become the new Nine Inch Nails drummer.
4. On November 18, 2008, Ilan Rubin’s solo project, The New Regime, digitally released its debut album, Coup, everywhere.
