Grinderman 2 and North American Tour

Grinderman will release their new album Grinderman 2 via Anti-Records on September 14th. The album was co-produced by Grinderman and Nick Launay (Public Image Ltd, Birthday Party) and mixed by Launay. The group open their North American tour November 11th in Toronto, Canada.

An Evening With Greg Dulli

Greg Dulli will embark on his first solo tour, beginning in New Orleans on October 8th. ‘An Evening With Greg Dulli’ will feature Greg along with long-time Twilight Singers guitarist Dave Rosser and multi-instrumentalist Rick Nelson (Polyphonic Spree) performing a stripped down set. ‘An Evening With Greg Dulli’ will be a limited run tour with only fourteen US shows along with stops in Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Belgium. Dulli will debut several new songs from the forthcoming Twilight Singers album scheduled for release on Sub Pop Records in early 2011.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale later this week.

Blonde Redhead:: Fall Tour for Penny Sparkle

In support of their upcoming album Penny Sparkle (out Sept 14th), Blonde Redhead will undertake a tour beginning in mid-October. Penny Sparkle was made between New York and Stockholm with production duo Van Rivers and The Subliminal Kid (Fever Ray, Massive Attack). There will be a pre-sale for most of the shows. The pre-sale password is “Sparkle” and the sales begin 48 hours prior to the city’s on-sale date.

Red Sparowes:: US/UK/EU Dates

Los Angeles quintet Red Sparowes has announced North American tour dates with Japanese band Boris in August, followed by European and UK shows this fall. The band is currently supporting its third full-length album, The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer. Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti announces Fall tour

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti’s 4AD debut, Before Today, came out sounding a bit different from what we last remembered. Having said that, first released single “Round and Round” set the scene early for one of summer’s better records. I like this album because it mixes it up and doesn’t remind me of lame kids and typical indie rock redux at all. There’s some art there, assuming pop music is art. Before Today was recorded in Encino at the House of Blues (once Tito Jackson’s home studio) with Sunny Levine (Quincy Jones’ grandson) and Rik Pekkonen (Bill Withers, Seals & Crofts, Bread) as well as at the band’s home studios.

Strange Boys:: NYC Pool Parties and other Dates

Austin, Texas group Strange Boys have been mentioned many times here before. In the last year the band released their second album, Be Brave, toured with Spoon, and played Glastonbury. Nick Lowe:: Full Band Tour in the U.S. in October

British songwriter Nick Lowe will bring a full band to the states for the first time this millennium. The U.S. line-up will feature Geraint Watkins (keyboards), Robert Trehern (drums), Johnny Scott (guitar) and Matt Radford (bass). Lowe debuted as a solo artist with Jesus of Cool/Pure Pop for Now People in 1978. In recent years, Lowe has continued with his solo albums – The Impossible Bird, Dig My Mood, The Convincer and most recently, At My Age. With that in mind the three albums preceding At My Age – The Impossible Bird, Dig My Mood and The Convincer – will be out on vinyl for the first time ever on September 21st. The albums are currently available for pre-order and can be purchased together as a bundle for the reduced price of $39.99 here. I threw in an American Bandstand performance of “Ragin’ Eyes” below.

Neutral Uke Hotel plan August Tour

Neutral Uke Hotel have pleased many with their live performances of Neutral Milk Hotel’s In the Aeroplane Over The Sea done on ukulele. The group, made up of Shawn Fogel (vocals, ukulele), Josh Cohen (melodica), Matt Girard (trumpet), Michael J. Epstein (baritone ukulele). Fogel says of this project, “It’s one of my favorite records ever, and the album doesn’t just have fans. The people who love that album are obsessed with it…. The goal of the project: [is] to strip these songs down and get people in a room to share their love for this album.’’ The 12 city tour begins August 16th in Cleveland.
