Philadelphia Grand Jury make new single, stage final Australian shows, and move to the UK

Philadelphia Grand Jury make new single, stage final Australian shows, and move to the UKAustralian group Philadelphia Grand Jury’s new single ‘I Don’t Want To Party (Party),’ a live favourite, will be released via iTunes on March 22nd. The single is joined by three exclusive tracks, including a disco remix of album track ‘Wet Winter Holiday’ by Mike FWD, a solo track by lead singer and producer Berkfinger called ‘Jimmy At The Whorehouse’ which is the first cut off a self-produced solo concept album due out later in the year, and a hip-hop funk jam called ‘Both Kinds Of Music’ written, sung and produced by the band’s new drummer Calvin. Calvin (yes just Calvin) is a 56 year-old African American drummer who has lended his sticks to US disco, Earth Wind and Fire, and bebop legend Sonny Stitt.

To celebrate the single Philadelphia Grand Jury will be touring throughout April with special guests The John Steel Singers for what will be their final Australian shows for the foreseeable future. The band will then re-locate to the UK where they have a deal with London based Beggar’s label ‘Too Pure’ and a series of club shows leading into the Northern Summer.

Listen below and stream Philadelphia Grand Jury’s entertaining album, Hope Is For Hopers.  Dates after more.

David Bazan on tour, new release Live at Electrical Audio

David Bazan on tour, new release Live at Electrical AudioLast time I saw David Bazan was in Chapel Hill at the 50 back in 2006.  Now, Bazan is on a US tour in support of his release Curse Your Branches. Last October, Bazan and his band spent a day in Studio A at Electrical Audio in Chicago. The band set-up and played live with no overdubs over the next 12 hours. The tracks were sent to Bazan’s long time collaborator and former Pedro The Lion bandmate, TW Walsh for mixing and mastering. Bazan: Live at Electrical Audio features 10 new versions of songs that have previously appeared on Pedro The Lion, Headphones and Bazan solo albums. The release is currently only available at davidbazan.com and on this upcoming nationwide tour. Bazan has made the track “Magazine”, which originally appeared on Pedro the Lion’s Control, available for you here.

Echo & The Bunnymen:: US Tour for The Fountain

Echo & The Bunnymen:: US Tour for The Fountain Echo & The Bunnymen are launching their first US tour in support of their new album, The Fountain. The shows come after the band’s recent tour celebrating their legendary album Ocean Rain that included orchestral performances at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The Fountain came together in 2007 when frontman Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant started working on new songs. For the next year, the group brought the album together in Liverpool’s Parr Street Recording Studios. McCulloch calls The Fountain “the best thing we’ve done since Ocean Rain.”
